Theatre of the Oppressed!

Perhaps one of my greatest experiences was having the chance to study Augusto Boal's Theory of Theatre of the Oppressed at CNYU in New York!  This study crosses the worlds of communication and Theatre in the most unique and amazing way.  In this study, we learn how to communicate, how to stand up for your beliefs without hurting someone, and in reality how to promote change when change is needed.  This theory is used in schools fighting against bullying, in corporate America when there are employee issues, and in foreign countries.  Not only did I have the chance to study this, but also I was also able to be a part of a team that put this into action, creating and performing a piece that dealt with young adults and teenagers and some of the struggles they face.  It was phenomenal the response we received.

As an actress this study helped me to dive into reality onstage, to respond more naturally, and to take on new characters.
